Many soldiers and civilians lost their lives in World War II, and others were scarred for life. This is also true in Dordrecht, and it is important to emphasize this. It is a reality that is sometimes overlooked and not fully understood by those who have not experienced war. Only those who lived through it have a true understanding.

Fortunately, we are the ones who did not suffer the hardships,
Fortunately, we are the ones who did not have to clean up the rubble.
Fortunately, we are the ones who did not bear the scars.
Fortunately, we are the ones who did not have to bury the dead.

Lest they be forgotten.
