They used registration cards for this purpose. This ensured fair distribution of essential food items. These are two examples of the first type of registration cards issued to two residents of Dordrecht.


During the war, the Germans decided to introduce a second type of registration card to cut off the many hidden individuals from the distribution of food. This registration card was linked to the personal identification card, making it nearly impossible for those in hiding to obtain. This is one of reasons why the resistance often targeted distribution offices and made extensive efforts to forge registration cards and identification documents. Here are two examples of the second type of registration card.

Distribution cards of the Van Vlierden family from Dordrecht.
Below you can see some distribution cards of the 1st and 2nd model. The distribution cards belonged to the Van Vlierden family from Dordrecht. The head of the family was Antonie van Vlierden. He served in the Corps Pontonniers en Torpedisten ( Army Maritime Engineers Corps ) in Dordrecht, as mentioned on his card. In May 1940, Sergeant-Major Van Vlierden was involved in the fighting against German paratroopers. After the war, he would be awarded the Military Order of William, 4th class:
Royal Decree no. 2 of June 15, 1946: "Distinguished himself in battle by outstanding acts of courage, strategy, and loyalty, by actively engaging in the fight. Despite being a military worker, from May 11 to May 13, 1940, he participated in the defense of one of the entrances to the heart of the city of Dordrecht. When on May 13, 1940, the position in which he was located had to be abandoned, he conducted the retreat with great strategy and courage, under heavy enemy fire, exposing himself personally in order to restore the morale of his group. On the same day, he voluntarily participated in an attempt to retrieve abandoned anti-tank artillery and a light machine gun under enemy fire. He succeeded in capturing the light machine gun."
