Interesting websites.

On this page, all websites that may be relevant or interesting for you will be placed here. The website are all related to the topic: Dordrecht during the war. Most websites are in Dutch but might be still interesting for you to visit.

Zuidfront-Holland1940. (Click on the link to be rerouted to the website)
This interesting website from author: Allert Goossens covers extensively the battle for the "Zuidfront Holland" or the Southern Front of Holland in may 1940 of which Dordrecht was a part of. I use this website as a source often. You might also want to check: War over Holland. (Click on the link to be rerouted to the website). A webstite that has been written in English and covers the war in Holland in may 1940. A very good source!

Zuidfront-Holland1940 - Dordt Open stad.  (Click on the link to be rerouted to the website)
The website; Dordt Open Stad was made by the late Mr. Jens van der Vorm and is based on the work of his father: the late Mr. Jan van der Vorm. Jan van der Vorm wrote the Dutch book: Dordt Open Stad about the battles on the island of Dordrecht in may 1940. When Mr. Jan van der Vorm died, Jens took over his work. The website was adopted by Allert Goossens as a "sister website" of the above mentioned website. It has many stories en photographs of Dordrecht in may 1940. The website is in Dutch but you might want to take a look at the many interesting photographs. Just check: "Beeldmateriaal". This website has been the inspiration for me to build my own website: www.Dordrechtindeoorlog.nl Jens also organized the reenactment event: Dordt Open Stad. Sadly Jens died in October 2010 due to colon cancer. Jens: Thank you for all you have done for Dordrecht!

Regionaal Archief Dordrecht.  (Click on the link to be rerouted to the website)
The website of the "Regionaal Archief Dordrecht" or Regional Archive Dordrecht is a nice collection of archive data and old photographs in relation to the history of Dordrecht. A website in Dutch, but still nice to visit. Check "Beeldbank" to search for photographs.

Verzet in en om Dordrecht.  (Click on the link to be rerouted to the website)
The author of this website  directs his efforts on telling the story of the resitance in Dordrecht during the war. A history that is still clouded in thick fog to this day. Little is known about the resitance history in Dordrecht, but this website, although in Dutch is still very interesting.

't Dordrecht van toen - geschiedenis van een eiland. (Click on the link to be rerouted to the website)
This is a facebookpage founded by Mr. Leo Kroonen. The group is intended to reminisce about the history of Dordrecht and to give people a platform to inquire about knowledge and the sharing of historical material related to Dordrecht. The group has over 13000 members!

Stichting Bunkerbehoud Dordrecht. (Click on the link to be rerouted to the website)
The foundation for the preservation of bunkers in Dordrecht is a foundation that restores and preserves bunkers from world war two on the island of Dordrecht. They also do a lot of research. They have an informative website about their work.

Mobilisatiemuseum in tijd van oorlog - Bert Jans Museum. (Click on the link to be rerouted to the website)
This very nice facebookpage is intented as a sort of digital museum founded by collector Bert-Jan Diering from the town of Diepenheim. With his museum he directs attention to the mobilization period in the Netherlands before the outbreak of the war. With the uniforms he sometimes also receives as donations he tries to find the correct historical context. and eventually he does not only share the story about the uniform, but also about the person behind the unfiform. The passion that he has by doing this makes this a very nice facebookpage to follow.

Stolpersteine - Dordrecht. (Click on the link to be rerouted to the website).
Stolpersteine are little rocks of 10x10x10 cm with a bronze coloured metall plate. On these plates you will find the names of Jewish people that were murdered by the Nazi's and their followers during world war two. De stones are usually placed on the sidewalk near the homes where these people used to live before they were deported and murdered. It's a wonderfull inititiative to make sure that these Jewish victims of world war two are not forgotten.
