Dordrecht during world war two

A collection of historical items from World War II in Dordrecht.

Insignia of the "Korps Pontonniers and Torpedisten".

Below you can see an original set of collar insignia for a soldier in the Corps of Pontonniers and Torpedisten. These emblems were worn on each collar of the "coarse fabric" uniform or the prototype uniform to indicate that the soldier was part of the Corps of Pontonniers and Torpedisten. Embroidered collar insignia could only be found on the collar of the "buitenmodel" uniform.

Collar Insignia Adjutant/Ensign Corps of Pontonniers and Torpedisten.
Below you will find a collar insignia intended for an adjutant or Ensign of the Corps of Pontonniers and Torpedisten. It is a detachable collar with an embroidered fouled anchor on grey-green fabric. The round distinguishing mark is that of an Adjutant or Ensign. The collar piece has a red piping. This collar piece with corresponding insignias was likely used for educational purposes to instruct new recruits in the rank structure of the Dutch army.

Collar emblems of an officer of the Corps of Pontonniers en Torpedisten.
Below you can see a number of fine collar emblems intended for the uniform of an officer of the Army Maritime Engineers (Corps Pontonniers and Torpedisten). In some cases, the emblem of the fouled anchor was embroidered directly on the collar of the uniform. But as can be seen below, the anchors were also sometimes embroidered on pieces of fabric and then sewn onto the collar. These are some emblems, presumably used as educational tools for training new military personnel in the rank and status system. In wear, two of these emblems would be placed on the uniform, one on the left and one on the right.

Collar insignia for a non-commissioned officer of the Corps of Pontonniers and Torpedisten.
This set of collar badges from the Corps of Pontonniers and Torpedisten were intended for the uniform of a non-commissioned officer, one on each side of the collar. They are embroidered emblems with yellow crossed anchors. Slightly less luxurious than the version embroidered with gold thread for officers. These emblems were hand-sewn onto the collar
