On this photo of the road bridge over the Oude Maas between Zwijndrecht and Dordrecht, the marking of Fallschirmjäger Regiment 1 is clearly visible. It reads: “10–14.5 1./Fallschirm‑Jäger.Rgt.1 1940” on the bridge. This refers to the paratroopers of the 1st Battalion of Fallschirmjäger Regiment 1, who captured both bridges during the events of May 1940.
