3. Julianastraat seen from the Ringdijk in Zwijndrecht

Allied bombers fly low over Zwijndrecht during the Second World War. The photo was taken during Operation Manna or Chowhound. Operation Manna (British) and Operation Chowhound (American) were Allied food‑dropping missions in April–May 1945 to relieve the severely starving population of western Netherlands at the end of the Hunger Winter. The RAF began dropping food on 29 April 1945, followed by the USAAF on 1 May. In total, thousands of tons of supplies were released at low altitude, bringing immediate relief to hundreds of thousands of Dutch civilians. These appear to be American B‑17 bombers.
