2. Troop movements across the Zwijndrecht bridge during the Second World War in Dordrecht.

A large movement of German troops is crossing the Zwijndrecht road bridge. The combination of motorised vehicles and horse‑drawn wagons is striking, clearly showing that the German army in the May days of 1940 was far from fully motorised. This photograph was found together with the image of the destroyed warehouses at the Spoorweghaven and was almost certainly taken in May 1940, or shortly thereafter. It depicts one of the many major German troop movements across the Zwijndrecht bridge during the Second World War in Dordrecht.
