26. Friedrich Herzinger - Gasschutzschule Kweekschool Buiten-Walevest

This photo comes from the estate of the German non‑commissioned officer Friedrich “Fritz” Herziger.
He entered military service in 1939. He then took part in the campaign in Poland, as well as in France, where he was wounded. In June 1941, after spending some time in a military hospital (Lazarett), he came to the Netherlands with the newly formed 719th Infantry Division. There he served between 1941 and 1944 in the 14./Gren.Rgt. 723 (14th Company of Grenadier Regiment 723, 719th Infantry Division).
On 7 September 1944, Friedrich was killed in action at the Albert Canal in Belgium. During his service in the Netherlands, he also spent some time in Dordrecht.
The photo shows German soldiers in front of the Kweekschool on the Buiten‑Walevest. This building served as the Gasschutzschule (gas‑protection school) of the 719th Infantry Division during the war. Friedrich is standing in the third row from the top, and he is the fourth person from the right.
