14. Staff Visit General Erich Höcker Dordrecht 116

This photo belongs to a photo lot of the German general Erich Höcker. This general was placed in command of the 719th German Infantry Division on 3 May 1941, with its headquarters in Dordrecht. On 1 June 1941 he received permanent command of the division, which he held until 10 January 1944. In this photo we see General Erich Höcker himself, standing on the Bosboom Toussaintstraat. The former small church is still clearly visible in the street. According to the text on the back of the photo, the general is on his way to the staff quarters. In the previous photo, the building used by the 2nd Battalion of Infantry Regiment 723 was mentioned. This regiment was part of the 719th Infantry Division and was redesignated Grenadier Regiment 723 in October 1942. The general is being received by several officers, presumably from the 723rd IR, before they walk toward the school building. It is a striking photo of the Bosboom Toussaintstraat and of a prominent figure within the German military leadership in Dordrecht.
