40. German soldiers pay tribute to the cases at the General Cemetery in Dordrecht in May 1940

This photo was taken very shortly after May 1940. The photo shows wreath‑laying and final tributes by German soldiers to their fallen comrades who are buried at the General Cemetery. At this moment there is still a considerable variety of grave markers visible. Fresh flowers lie everywhere. On some graves the small wooden crosses can still be seen on which the so‑called Erkennungsmarke numbers were written.
