(Gerrit Prins was born on 1 September 1919 in Dordrecht. His parents were Cornelis Prins and Willempje Aantjes. On 19 December 1938, Gerrit, a regular conscript of the 1939 draft from Dordrecht, was assigned to the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment, to the Survey Section. On 1 July 1939, he was transferred to the artillery survey section. On 25 May 1940, he was granted extended leave.)
