(Gerrit Prins was born on 1 September 1919 in Dordrecht. His parents were Cornelis Prins and Willempje Aantjes. On 19 December 1938, Gerrit was enlisted as an ordinary conscript of the 1939 draft from Dordrecht and assigned to the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment, in the Survey Section. On 1 July 1939, he was transferred to the Artillery Survey Section. On 25 May 1940, he was granted extended leave.)
