Field post card – Voorstraathaven – 9 June 1939

“Military serviceman G. Prins
2nd R.V.A., Survey Section
Old Alexander Barracks
Laan Copus van Kattenburg
The Hague

Dear Gerrit,
From your card I learned that you are now back in The Hague. Yes, in the end the heath starts to get boring, even if it is beautiful. It has been very warm these last few days. Today it’s a bit better as far as the heat is concerned. Congratulations on your father’s birthday. It must have been quite a surprise for them when you walked in on Monday evening. On Sunday we went to Koosje’s for the birthday. Well Gerrit, the card is full. Warm greetings from your friend, D.J. Struijk Vondelstraat 49, Dordrecht.”

(Gerrit Prins was born on 1 September 1919 in Dordrecht. His parents were Cornelis Prins and Willempje Aantjes. On 19 December 1938, Gerrit, a regular conscript of the 1939 draft from Dordrecht, was assigned to the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment, to the Survey Section. On 1 July 1939 he was transferred to the artillery survey section. On 25 May 1940 he was granted extended leave.)
