Field post card – fragments from my time in service – 2 May 1940

“Fam: v. Kleef
Werkenmondestr 19
Dordrecht

Wednesday evening. Dear Dad, Mom, and Tonny.

Everything is still fine here. Today we had a parade because the 2nd Regiment is celebrating its 64th anniversary. Otherwise everything is still the same. Tomorrow I’m taking part in a training march for the Four Days Marches in The Hague. There are about fifteen of us joining in. Let’s hope the weather stays good. No further news. Warm greetings, Wim.”

(The regiment that held a parade in May 1940 on the occasion of its 64th anniversary was the 2nd Infantry Regiment (2 RI). This regiment was founded on 1 July 1876, and therefore had existed for exactly 64 years in May 1940.)
