24. Surrender of Weapons and Ammunition
This document is an official receipt from the Municipal Police of Sliedrecht, dated 20 May 1940, shortly after the outbreak of the war. The form records that the mayor, H. Popping, confirms that the municipal police have received a weapon and ammunition from A. Prins, contractor, residing at address B in Sliedrecht. The pre‑printed fields for type, model, manufacturer’s mark, number, and calibre are present but only partly filled in: it concerns one air rifle in a case.
After the capitulation on 15 May 1940, the Germans took full control of authority in the Netherlands. The Military Command immediately introduced regulations to control the population, including a requirement that all firearms and ammunition had to be surrendered.
