23. Forderung Arbeitsleistung

This document is an official order dated 12 May 1944, issued by the mayor of Sliedrecht during the German occupation. The text is presented in both German and Dutch, as was customary for directives that stemmed directly from instructions issued by the Wehrmacht.

Arie Prins, born on 27 September 1922 and residing at B112 in Sliedrecht, is ordered in the summons to report the following day — Saturday, 13 May 1944 at 7 o’clock in the morning — at the Raadhuisplein. He must bring a spade and food for the entire day. The assignment concerns performing labour service for the Wehrmacht, a form of forced deployment that was imposed on civilians with increasing frequency during the final months of the war.

The document states that failure to appear will be reported immediately to the Wehrmachtskommandant, which could have serious consequences. At the bottom appears the signature of the mayor.
