20. Confirmation of Exemption Form for Surrender
This document is a confirmation issued by the municipality of Sliedrecht on 29 July 1941, stating that A. Prins Azn. has submitted a completed and signed Model II form. This type of form was part of the official administration concerning the mandatory surrender of metal objects during the occupation.
The document states that the form was submitted on the basis of the decree issued by several Secretaries‑General, including those for Trade, Industry and Shipping, Internal Affairs, Education, Science and Cultural Protection, and Finance. The submitted form lists three objects. At the bottom, a signature on behalf of the mayor and a municipal stamp confirm the official receipt.
During the German occupation, civilians were required to surrender metal objects because these raw materials were requisitioned by the German authorities for the war industry. Metals such as copper, tin, lead, and nickel were needed for the production of weapons, ammunition, vehicles, communication equipment, and other military applications. For that reason, strict rules and official forms existed to register the surrender and to assess exemptions — such as in the case of valuable or historical objects.
