18. Statement of Bicycle Retention

This document is a formal statement issued by A. Prins Th. zoon’s Aanneming Maatschappij on 25 October 1944, in the midst of the occupation period. The company explains that A. Prins Azn., born in 1893 and residing at B.112 in Sliedrecht, must regularly travel to Dordrecht for tasks essential to the functioning of the firm. These include collecting funds at the Amsterdamsche Bank and paying out wages and waiting allowances. Because Dordrecht at that time was practically accessible only by bicycle, the company emphasizes that the bicycle is indispensable for carrying out these duties.

The statement is clearly intended to prevent the bicycle of A. Prins from being requisitioned by the German authorities or the municipal police.
