Dordt Open Stad 2011
In May 2011, the event Dordt Open Stad was organized again. This event aimed at reenacting and portraying the beginning of the war in Dordrecht. In May 1940, German paratroopers landed everywhere in and around Dordrecht. Dutch troops engaged in combat with these forces. The photos on this page show the volunteers depicting this event in May 2011.
Several events were reenacted on this day. Firstly, the scene where the Railway Engineer troops were awakened by passing planes that dropped paratroopers in the early morning of May 10, 1940. Then, the landings in the Polder, which is now the Weizigtpark area. Next, the battles on Krispijnse Weg were recreated, starting with the clash between Dutch troops on the Krispijnse Weg and Bosboom Toussaint Straat, and German paratroopers on the Mauritsweg. Then, the confrontation between Dutch troops and German paratroopers on the Krispijnse Weg near café Sebes. Lastly, the volunteers reenacted the event where Mayor Bleeker was shot by German paratroopers near the Krispijntunnel, and some photos were taken at Villa Weizigt.
