Over de collectie. 

Elke collectie begint met een bepaalde interesse of fascinatie voor geschiedenis. Zo'n collectie begint meestal klein maar wordt in de loop der jaren steeds groter en groter. Waar wellicht de meeste mensen hun interesse kunnen voeden met boeken alleen, is de tastbare herinnering voor de verzamelaar iets wat hem nog dichter terug in de tijd brengt.  Om dit enigszins uit te leggen; Men kan een bepaald boek lezen over een geschiedkundig onderwerp wat heel veel kan verduidelijken, maar is dan beperkt in het beeld wat daarbij hoort. Het beeld wordt immers gevormd door de eigen fantasie want men was er simpelweg niet bij toen het gebeurde. 

De verzamelaar zoekt dit beeld in de spullen die hij verzameld. Of dit nu een helm is of een foto, een veldfles of een persoonsbewijs. Al deze zaken schijnen wat licht over de periode die geweest is. En dat is precies hoe deze collectie begonnen is. Na al jaren lang interesse gehad te hebben in de tweede wereldoorlog in het algemeen en de daarbij horende geschiedkundige objecten in de collectie, ging het roer om naar de lokale geschiedenis van de mobilisatie en de tweede wereldoorlog: die van Dordrecht en omstreken. 

Meerdere originele foto's vonden hun weg naar de collectie, en toen albums en documenten, en zelfs een aantal Dordtse kranten uit 1940. 
Het nodige onderzoek ( d.w.z. vanuit een hobbyistisch oogmerk) werd gedaan naar deze objecten en daarbij ontstond het juiste verhaal. 
De basis voor deze website was gelegd. 

De behoefte aan een website. 
Zoals gezegd groeide de verzameling en daarmee ook de gedachte dat er misschien meer uit te halen viel. Het idee om deze collectie met iedereen te delen kwam tot stand. Het zou zonde zijn om deze historie niet met iedereen te delen. Geschiedenis is immers van iedereen. Zodoende ontstond een soort "Digitaal Museum" . Eerst op een Facebook pagina ,maar al gauw bleek dat platform voor de beoogde doeleinden niet heel geschikt. Een website bleek hierin een geschikter platform. Het resultaat vind u hier. 

De website is zuiver en alleen bedoeld als platform voor het tonen van een particuliere verzameling. Wij zijn geen museum noch een historische instelling. Desondanks wordt er wel nagestreefd om beschrijvingen en achtergrond informatie bij de getoonde beelden zo accuraat mogelijk te maken. Dit doen wij met behulp van bronnen waar wij ook vermelding van zullen doen. Mocht u het vermoeden hebben dat er zaken niet kloppen of aanvullende informatie kunnen leveren over de getoonde zaken, dan horen wij dit graag. 

Tot slot. 

Verzamelen is net als de meeste hobby's of interesses niet goedkoop. De interesse in het verzamelen van historische objecten voor een persoonlijke collectie is er één die gedeeld wordt door velen. Helaas is het zo, dat er ook mensen zijn die grote sommen geld proberen te verdienen aan het kopiëren en verkopen van andermans materiaal. Zij doen dit bijvoorbeeld door scans te gebruiken van originele foto's die andere verzamelaars met de beste bedoelingen op het internet plaatsen. Vervolgens worden deze op oud lijkend fotopapier afgedrukt en verkocht als zijnde origineel.

In het kort kan men dat dus gerust beschrijven als een vorm van geschiedvervalsing in de vorm van reproductie. Dordrecht in de oorlog wil hier op geen enkele manier aan meewerken en voelt zich dus genoodzaakt hier enige tegenmaatregelen op te nemen. Het merendeel van de foto's op deze website zal voorzien zijn van een klein watermerk. Geprobeerd wordt om dit zo min mogelijk storend te laten zijn voor het totaalbeeld. Wij vragen hierbij om uw begrip. 
Ook willen wij duidelijk stellen dat de content op deze pagina niet gedeeld, gedupliceerd of gepubliceerd mag worden zonder nadrukkelijke toestemming van Dordrecht in de oorlog , zijnde de auteur van deze website.

About the collection.

Every collection starts with a certain interest or fascination for history. Such a collection usually starts small but expands over the years and it gets bigger and bigger. Where most people may feed this interest in books alone, the tangible memory for the collector is something that brings him closer to history. To clarify: One can read a book about a certain historical subject that may explain a lot, but will still be confined in the image that belongs to it. After all , the image one forms is shaped by one's own imagination. One was not there when it happened. 

A collector searches this image in the items he collects. Whether this is a helmet, a photograph, a canteen or a personal identification document. All these items shed some light over that specific period of time that was. And that is exactly how this collection started. After years of taking an interest in world war two in general and the asociated collectibles with it,  I changed course to local history of the Dutch military mobilisation and the second world war: That of the city of Dordrecht and it's surroundings. 

Multiple original photographs found there way to the collection, and then photoalbums and documents. And even some local newspapers from Dordrecht from 1940. Research was done ( From a hobbyistic point of view so to speak)  in these objects and the right story was added to it. 
The basis for this website was laid. 

The need for a website.
As mentioned before, the collection grew and with it, the thought there might be more in it.  The idea came to share this collection with every one interested. It would be a waste, not to share this history with anyone. After all, history belongs to all. Thus this "digital museum" was created. First as a Facebook Page. But soon it turned out such kind of platform was not very suitable for the intended purposes. A website turned out to be more suitable. The result, you will find here. 

This website is only intended as a platform to share a private collection. We are no museum or a historic institution. However we do aspire to make the descriptions and background information with the shown items as accurate as possible. We use historic sources which we will mention. In case you suspect some information is not right or you have additional information about the shown items, we would be happy to know. 

In conclusion. 

Collecting, as most hobby's or interests is not cheap. The interest in collecting historic objects for a personal collection is one shared by many. Unfortunally, there are people who copy material and sell it as originals and make a lot of money in the process. They do this for example by using scans of original photographs that are placed on the internet by collectors with the best intentionts. The scans are printed on old photopaper and sold als originals. 

To summarise, this could be interpreted as historic falsefication in the form of reproduction. Dordrecht in the war does not want to be a part of such reproduction and feels forced to use countermeasures. The photographs on this website will feature a watermark to protect them from being copied. We try to make this as less disturbing as possible for the total image. We ask you for your understanding.
